The Gadget Show – Channel 5

29th April 2016

2016 marks the end of season 23 of the British television series The Gadget Show, broadcasted on Channel 5. The show, focused on consumer technology is filled with some exciting action, and this year’s series has yet again bagged another successful season, with its current presenters: Jason Bradbury, Ortis Deley, Jon Bentley, Amy Williams and Yue Xu. The series is definitely a show for all, allowing the audience to be presented with the latest insight of the ‘gadget world’, and for those who are devoted to tech, there is definitely some in-depth information that shouldn’t be missed out (Don’t worry, it won’t bore the rest of us!).

During this year’s series, in Episode 4 to be more specific, we were featured in one of the show’s competitions: – Gadgets Vs Amazon one hour delivery service, which turned out to be one of the funniest moments of the episode – sorry Jon!

Episode 4: Gadgets Vs Amazon one hour delivery service

The leading internet-based retailer, Amazon, has recently launched a one-hour delivery service across the U.K. with the promise to deliver packages to your door in an hour.

Jon and Ortis from The Gadget Show attended the Amazon local depot to explore the particulars of the service being supplied to their customers, and happily competed utilising high-tech gadgets Vs the original forms of transport (van with a driver).

The challenge

Three locations were randomly chosen, for parcels to be delivered: Fordham Sports (4.5 miles), Setsquare Staging Limited (2 miles) and finally, the Oval cricket ground (8.4 miles).

The competition was between one of Amazon’s delivery drivers Jeremy, utilising a van and Jon and Ortis using some proper traffic- beating commuter-tech to program destinations into mobile phones, enabling the reporters to deliver the parcel with the use of trendy bikes to the final destination.

The result

Amazon 2 – Gadgets 1.

The competition saw a few hiccups for Jon and Ortis, as the satnav and street app caused a delay of 17 minutes on the first delivery and a further 20 minutes on the second delivery. But, luckily they managed to win the third round – whoop whoop!

Amazon promises a delivery within 1 hour, and due to the results seen during the episode, we agree with The Gadget Show that it is probably better for the professionals to keep doing what they are best at, and for the rest of us, to use these great gadgets to enjoy the city in our free time.

If you had the opportunity to try them, let us know what you think…
